Getting there

Four ways to Brockwell Park

Herne Hill is the closest station on National Rail. Brixton is the main tube option, and Tulse Hill is the quiet alternative.

CLOSEST

Herne Hill (the closest gate)

The easiest move. Herne Hill is on National Rail (Thameslink & Southeastern) and it's the closest station to the park — just an 8–10 minute walk to the gates. Thameslink connects it straight to Blackfriars and London Bridge.

National Rail · 8–10 min walk to the gates

Brixton (the main tube option)

Victoria line plus National Rail. It's the busiest route in, a 15–20 minute walk up Brixton/Dulwich Road — or hop a 3, 196 or 322 bus to shave that down. The Victoria line runs late, including the Night Tube on Friday & Saturday.

Victoria line + Rail · 15–20 min walk or short bus

Tulse Hill (the quiet alternative)

National Rail on the south side of the park, roughly a 10-minute walk. Far calmer than Brixton both in and out — a smart choice if your train line serves it, and it eases the post-show crush nicely.

National Rail · 10-min walk · quietest

Don't drive — it's a park event zone

There's no event parking at Brockwell Park and a controlled parking zone covers the surrounding streets. If you must drive, park out near a Victoria line or rail stop and finish the trip by train or bus.

Timing & tactics

Beat the crowds

Arriving on the day

  • From 12pm: Gates open — get in early, soundtrack the day from the first stages and beat the queues
  • Early afternoon: Relaxed — bag checks are quick and the park's easy to roam between stages
  • Mid-afternoon: Busier — Herne Hill and Brixton platforms start filling as the crowds build
  • By 7pm: Getting tight — last entry is 8pm, so don't cut it fine if you're arriving late
  • After 8pm: Too late — no entry is permitted and there's no re-entry once you're inside

After the show

  • Best option: Walk 8–10 min to Herne Hill (National Rail) — closest, and it spreads the load off Brixton
  • Option 2: Tulse Hill (National Rail, ~10 min) on the south side — the quietest way out
  • Option 3: Brixton (Victoria line + Rail) — runs late incl. Night Tube on Fri/Sat, but very congested
  • ⚠ Avoid: Funnelling straight up to Brixton with everyone else — it's the slowest, most crowded exit

Insider tip: spread off Brixton

Brixton gets very congested the moment the music stops. Walking 8–10 minutes to Herne Hill or ~10 minutes to Tulse Hill (both National Rail) eases the crush and often gets you on a train faster.

Check your last train — and the rail finishes earlier

The Victoria line from Brixton runs late, including the Night Tube on Friday & Saturday. National Rail from Herne Hill and Tulse Hill finishes earlier and varies by route. With a 10:30pm finish you'll usually be fine — just confirm on the night before you head in.

The festival rules that catch people out on the day.

Small bags only

It's fully cashless

Card, contactless and phone only at every bar and kiosk on site. No cash accepted anywhere across the park.

Mobile tickets · no re-entry

Load your ticket into your wallet before you arrive — signal dies in the crowd. Last entry is 8pm and you can't come back in once you leave.

Rules change per event — always check the official event page for the latest bag, ticket and entry requirements before you travel.

Local knowledge

Insider shortcuts

Use Herne Hill, not Brixton, for the gates

It's the closest station at 8–10 minutes and far calmer than the Brixton crush — the local move both in and out.

Tulse Hill is the quiet escape

On the south side of the park, ~10 minutes on National Rail. Hardly anyone uses it post-show, so you'll often beat the queues.

Tap a contactless card you actually own

Daily capping means you rarely need a paper ticket. One card per person — don't share, it breaks the cap.

Get in soon after gates at 12pm

Bag checks and 40,000 people take time. Arrive early, settle in, and you'll roam the stages without the queues.

Hop a bus from Brixton if you must

The 3, 196 and 322 run up Brixton/Dulwich Road towards the park — handy if the walk from Brixton feels long.

Screenshot your route home before you go in

Phone signal dies with 40,000 people around you. Know your station and last-train time in advance.
