Matchday rules
London football golden rules
Always tap in and out separately
Never share a contactless card between people. TfL daily cap only applies to one card — sharing breaks the cap and costs more.
The quieter station beats the closest
Every London ground has a secondary station that's significantly less crowded. Always worth a 5-minute extra walk.
Check for evening engineering works
Weekend evening engineering works are common on London lines. Check TfL Journey Planner before you travel — don't assume your line is running.
Plan your exit before kick-off
Decide which exit and station you're using before the match starts. Don't figure it out in a 40,000-person crowd at full time.
Contactless is always cheapest
Tap in with the same contactless card every time you travel in a day. The daily cap kicks in and you stop paying — cheaper than an Oyster top-up.
Pre-match food away from the ground
Pubs and cafés 10–15 minutes from the ground are cheaper, less crowded and serve better food than places right outside. Worth the walk.
